Authors’ Comment

The proposed site is located in the Antim district, an area that bears the mark of a thriving past through the testimony of the built heritage that has been left isolated behind the wall formed by the blocks of the 1980s. The project aims to revitalise the destructured urban fabric through the insertion of an educational programme with an artistic specialization, which will become a landmark in the area generating activity and urban participation. This will be achieved by returning to the community the currently abandoned Elisabeta Știrbey Institute, and integrating it into a new ensemble that will supplement the choreography high school in the neighbourhood. This will breathe new life into the whole area, both in urban and social terms. Along with the performance hall, the main space of the school, the place of cultural events and meetings, the outdoor spaces play a special role, mediating the old and the new through courtyards with different qualities and degrees of intimacy.
